Dhal

A simple and comforting lentil dish made with our Vindaloo curry paste.

 

Ingredients (6-8 servings)

  • 540 g dry red lentils
  • 1 jar (90 ml) Vindaloo curry paste
  • 270 g onion
  • 100 ml oil
  • 2.4 L water
  • Salt, to taste

Method

  • Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  • Bring the water to a boil and add the lentils with a pinch of salt.
  • Cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the lentils are soft and the texture becomes smooth.
  • While the lentils are cooking, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add the onion and cook gently until soft and lightly golden.
  • Add the Vindaloo curry paste to the onion.
  • Cook together for 2–3 minutes, stirring well.
  • Add the onion and curry paste mixture to the lentils.
  • Stir to combine, taste and adjust salt if needed.

To serve

Serve warm with basmati rice and fresh coriander.

Extra (optional)

Add a dash or two of Fatakra hot sauce for extra heat.
